Six Weeks To A Six Pack - The Ultimate Abdominal Workout For Men & Women

ASK VINCE

Q: Hey Vince, I heard that exercising slows the aging process. Is this true?

Vince: Yes. Medical and physiological research into the process of human aging has found that disability, weakness, and disease are not inevitable in growing older. People who maintain a healthy lifestyle, choosing foods wisely, avoiding alcohol and tobacco use, keeping emotionally involved with others, and exercising - can forestall most of the disabilities traditionally associated with aging.

Q: Hi Vince, I need to lose weight, if I go on a crash diet and then exercise will that work?

Vince: No. While you can lose a significant amount of weight by following a crash diet, most of the weight loss is muscle mass, glycogen stores and water, not excess body fat. There are other problems associated with crash diets, including electrolyte imbalances, calcium deficiency, iron deficiency and other vitamins and mineral deficiencies. The fastest and safest way to lose excess body fat is through a combination of diet and exercise. For example, if you eat 500 calories less per day and burn 500 calories more per day through exercise, by the end of one week, you can expect to lose two pounds.

Q: Vince, I'm 32 years old and I have occasional lower back pain. Are there any exercises I can do to get rid of the pain?

Vince: My first recommendation is that you see your doctor and have a check up. 80% of Americans under age 45 experience some type of lower back pain. Symptoms include pain and muscle spasm in the area of the lumbar spine and usually results from tight muscles in the lower back, tight hamstrings, poor posture, weak abdominal muscles or body structure abnormalities. The best way to prevent low back pain is to stretch your hamstring and gluteal muscles, strengthen your abdominal area (with crunches and other abdominal exercises) and correct your posture.
