QUESTION #1:

Will sit-ups help me to flatten my stomach?

ANSWER:

No. As I stated earlier, sit-ups will not flatten your stomach. It will strengthen the abdominal muscles, which in turn will strengthen the lower back, but it will not reduce weight around your midsection. In order to reduce the weight, you must eat correctly and exercise.

QUESTION #2:

I’m having problems reducing the fat in my upper abdominal area. What exercise(s) can I do to alleviate that problem?

ANSWER:

Aerobic type exercises are the best for reducing fat around the middle and other parts of your body. There is no such thing as "spot reduction" (the ability to reduce weight in one particular spot of the body).

QUESTION #3:

What is the proper way to exercise my abdominal muscles?

ANSWER:

Always exercise your abdominal muscles with slow and intense (not painful) contractions, maintaining continuous tension and concentration throughout the movement. Treat your abdominal muscles like any other muscle and isolate each muscle group for optimum results (upper abs, lower abs and oblique).

QUESTION #4:

Should I work my upper abs first or my lower abs?

ANSWER:

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter, as long as you work the entire abdominal area. Most people prefer to work the upper abdominal muscles, the lower abdominal muscles and then their oblique (sides), which is done with various twisting motions. You can also perform combination exercises, which enables you to exercise more than one muscle group at a time.

QUESTION #5:

What should I do to get rid of the love handles around my waist?

ANSWER:

Love handles (the pads of fat above the hip bone at the side of the waist) are fat and only shrink with a low fat diet and general aerobic exercise. Various exercises such as "side benders" and "twists" are helpful, but only in addition to a low fat diet and aerobic exercise.
